Home builders in Tasmania

Tasmania, like South Australia, moved to a single state-wide instrument — the Tasmanian Planning Scheme — with local provisions schedules applied by each council. One vocabulary, statewide.

The constraints that bite hardest here are bushfire and slope. Much of Tasmania's attractive residential land is treed, sloping or both, and a bushfire attack level assessment plus geotechnical work are routine rather than exceptional. Cold-climate design — insulation, glazing and heating — also matters more than it does on the mainland.

Building practitioners in Tasmania are regulated by Consumer, Building and Occupational Services. Check any builder's registration with CBOS before you sign.

Do not assume Tasmania works like the mainland on insurance. Tasmania's arrangements differ, and we have not been able to verify the current position against CBOS — so we will not describe it. Confirm with CBOS what cover, if any, applies to your contract before you rely on having it.
