Checking a builder's licence in the Northern Territory
Here, the register tells you to verify the register. What to look for in any state, and what a licence never tells you, is on the main guide.

The direct search, not the regulator's front page. Opened and confirmed on 26 October 2026.
The Northern Territory register is the only one on this site that explicitly asks you not to rely on it, and that is worth taking at face value rather than as boilerplate.
A disclaimer that changes what the check is worth
The registration check carries a disclaimer in which the board disclaims responsibility and liability for losses arising from inaccurate information. Most government registers carry some caution; this one is direct enough that it changes the status of a clean result. Here, a search is a strong indication rather than a confirmation.
What follows practically is a phone call. The Registrar is on (08) 8936 4082, and on a build worth hundreds of thousands of dollars a verbal confirmation against the number you searched is a few minutes well spent — particularly if the builder does not appear, which the board itself names as the moment to ring.
What registration covers
Anyone carrying out building work in the Territory must be registered as a Building Contractor. The category covers new single houses, townhouses, duplexes and residential units to any height, along with commercial and industrial buildings.
Builders registered in another state or territory can apply for NT registration under mutual recognition in the equivalent category. That is common in a jurisdiction this size, and it means a builder who has only recently appeared on the Territory register may have a long history elsewhere — worth asking about, and worth checking in the state they came from, which the other pages in this family cover.

Questions about the Northern Territory licences
Where do I check a builder's registration in the NT?
The Building Practitioners Board registration check, hosted on NTLIS.
How much weight can I put on the result?
Less than elsewhere. The register carries a disclaimer in which the board disclaims responsibility and liability for losses from inaccurate information, so treat a search as a strong indication rather than a confirmation.
What should I do instead, or as well?
Ring the Registrar on (08) 8936 4082 and confirm against the number you searched — the board itself names a builder not appearing as the moment to call.
The builder is new to the NT register. Is that a concern?
Not necessarily. Interstate builders can register under mutual recognition in the equivalent category, so a short NT history may sit on a long one elsewhere — worth asking about, and worth checking in the state they came from.
