Builder in liquidation: the ACT

This page covers what is specific to the ACT. The steps to take first, and where to get help, are on the main page and apply wherever you are.

Building work in the ACT is regulated by Access Canberra, which licenses builders and is the starting point for anything to do with a collapsed builder.

We have not verified the ACT scheme

The ACT operates a statutory insurance requirement for residential building work, but we have not confirmed the current scheme name, thresholds or claim process against Access Canberra — so we are not going to describe them. Access Canberra is the authority and publishes current guidance.

A small jurisdiction has one advantage

The ACT building industry is small enough that Access Canberra will usually know the builder and the situation. Call them early rather than working through it alone.

The scheme

We have not verified how the ACT's arrangements work, so we are not going to describe them. Check with Access Canberra before assuming cover exists.
